
BURY SPORTS DEVELOPMENTBury sports development provide and sustain a quality and focused service where sport and physical activity is delivered in a structured way. The service aims to encourage and maximize participation throughout the communities of bury towards improving their health and wellbeing.
Aims
- Increase sporting participation
- Increase awareness of sporting links and partnerships throughout the borough
- To co-ordinate and improve coaching opportunities for children and young people
- To create and support local interest and improve local authority links in target sports
- To develop and support high quality opportunities for children and young people in sports clubs
- To work towards increasing the number and quality of leaders, coaches, teachers, officials and volunteers in a mentoring system
- To deliver a quality/structured coaching program specific to the ability of the group
- To encourage better school-club links
- To provide a link between the community and sporting provision e.g. youth centres, after school clubs, and parks sessions
- To enable children and young people to have fun!
Activities
Bury Sports Development run a number of different schemes throughout the year all of which encompass inclusion. The Schemes vary from Multisports play sessions in local parks to sport specific coaching sessions. The Disability sports & inclusion officer Yvonne Hall also runs disability specific sessions such as sports days that include a range of activities: wheelchair slalom races, football, Kurling, and Boccia competitions.
Bury Sports Development also acts a signposting service to other organisations in the area that may be of use to you.
